In 2002 our staff decided that they would like to raise money for local causes. Since that time, members have agreed to donate part of their Dividend to the Charity Account by rounding down Dividend payments to the nearest whole pound. The balance is transferred into No 1 Account – The Society Charity Account. This year we are raising money for The Forget Me Not Trust. Forget Me Not Trust Imagine for a moment, the joy at the news that you are about to be the parents of twin boys, the plans, the preparations, the excitement. God forbid that you ever have to imagine the news that one of your twins has a severe brain disorder and that the likelihood of his survival is minimal. The mixed emotions as the realisation sinks in, the anguish as you try to come to terms with a horrible inevitability. The boys are born and twins are hard work at the best of times, but when one of them needs round the clock care and attention, the joyful task of motherhood becomes a major effort and strain.
Not so! There is no statutory provision of respite or hospice facilities for the parents of young children who find themselves in this position. Linda Senior was that parent……….and in the midst of all her personal troubles and sadness, she decided to take up the challenge and set about raising the money to provide West Yorkshire with a facility and support services for parents and children facing this most sad and distressing future. With the needs of her young babies still foremost in her mind and the strain of constant care for one of them, amidst all this, she formed The Forget Me Not Trust with the aim of providing a children’s hospice and respite care facilities in the area. A massive task, but one which Linda has thrown herself into. The trust has charitable status and has already raised £250,000 but still has a long way to go. When the directors and staff of Wooldale Co-operative Society
heard of The Forget Me Not Trust, they immediately decided to adopt
it as our charity for a year with the express aim of raising as
