Locally Sourced Produce

To provide our customers with a broad range and good value, most of our products are supplied from The Co-operative Group who for more than 15 years have been at the forefront of Responsible Retailing Issues and have a distinctive ethical policy towards producing and sourcing food (see www.co-operative.coop/food/ethics/).

In line with the Society’s policy of supporting local and regional communities, we offer a new range of distinctive high quality products with a Yorkshire connection.

  • The Sheffield based Yorkshire Crisp Company produce luxury hand cooked crisps in stay fresh re sealable drums. Unlike many others, all their crisps are made with completely natural flavours. The Difference in taste is remarkable and food miles are reduced-significant for a bulky product like crisps.
  • Grumpy Mule is produced at their Meltham Roastery by the Balmforth family owned Bolling Coffee Ltd. The coffees are roasted in batches to suit their individual characteristics. The company has taken inspiration from the world of wine to ensure that customers can discover the distinctive character and provenance of each coffee by providing background about the place it was grown and the people who produced it. Most of these coffees aren’t just blends or characterless single origin coffees, but coffees from identifiable farms, estates and cooperatives of smallholder farmers.
  • The Summer Wine Brewery in Brockholes use time-honoured techniques to produce fine ales from traditional ingredients. Local water, organic barley, British hops and re-used bottles makes this ale as sustainable as it gets. They have made a  4% golden ale with a pleasant malt & hop aroma and easy drinking full flavour especially for Wooldale Co-operative Society members.
  • The Chilli Jam Man in Pudsey - a recent start up - hot stuff to spread on your butties!

These products will be displayed in our separate ‘Yorkshire and the Holme Valley’ display fixture giving more detail about the companies and their products; and we plan to introduce a new local product for you to try at least once a month during 2010.

Please come in to your local stores and treat yourself whilst supporting these great local companies.

If there is a local company you are aware of and you would like us to stock their product please e-mail us at director@wooldale.coop .
