Wooldale Co-operative Society a Local Business

Wooldale Co-operative Society operates three stores in Wooldale, New Mill and Thongsbridge.

It is completely independent and is owned by its 2000 or so members living in the surrounding area, and run by a voluntary board of directors.

The business is mainly funded by members who receive an annual dividend based on their purchases in the stores and  interest on their investment at a competitive rate, currently a quarter of one percent below the Bank of England base rate.

We employ about 35 local people, and quite a few of these are school leavers for whom it is their first step on the employment ladder.

Our Staff

We are very proud of our friendly and helpful staff, many of whom have been with us for quite a few years. We think they make a vital contribution to making the Society a real part of the community and our members friends rather than just customers.

Property

We also own the old library above the New Mill store which is currently available for rental  through Ryder Dutton and the field behind the Wooldale store that is being leased to the Holme Valley Gardening Network.
